Headaches Hidden Cause

If you’ve had trauma of any kind, get your spine checked.  Bones in the spine can be displaced and pinch nerves that cause headache.  Here is a patient’s testimonial this illustrates this fact.

“I was involved in a car accident several years ago that started a progression of regular headaches that got increasingly worse.  My debilitating migraines would last up to 2 days!  My physician took an M.R.I. and a cat scan but found nothing.  He prescribed painkillers to mask the problem.  That didn’t work, and neither did massage therapy, homeopathy, acupuncture, or physical therapy.  I started seeing Dr. V., and so far things are getting better by the week.  I’ve had only one migraine since starting care and my headaches have dropped from almost daily occurrences to maybe once a week.  I know I’m on the right track, as I feel better every day.  You too will feel better with Dr. V.!”  – Brian V.

All too often the real cause of headaches goes undetected.  Bones out of place in the neck create pressure on the nerves leading to severe headaches.  If you have a history of headaches and have lived with the problem using drugs to hide your pain, you owe it to yourself to get examined for the most common cause of headaches.  Get a chiropractor to check your spine for proper alignment.

Your problems may get worse without care.  With care you could feel better fast.  If we cannot help you, we will tell you so.  Call now for a FREE examination (303) 394-CARE (2273).

How to Avoid Headaches at Work

Do you consistently feel a headache creep on in the mid afternoon while you are sitting at work, almost ready to go home, but not quite ready to leave? Does it make the rest of your afternoon at work miserable? Does it start as a slow pain progression from the back of your head, creeping up to where you know it will land just behind your eye and continue to pulse until you go to bed that night?

At the Denver Headache Health Center realize headaches are hard to live with, especially when you have work to finish and other things to focus on. Regardless of the severity, headaches can affect you and the people around you. Here are some tips to try to reduce your chance of getting that day-stopping headache:

  1. Drink plenty of water – Dehydration can cause headaches and can be avoided by simply drinking enough water. Take you weight, divide it in two and that is how many ounces of water you should be drinking every day. Avoid drinks that dehydrate you such as soda, coffee, and alcohol.
  2. Relax – Sometimes stress can cause headaches by creating tension in your upper traps and neck. Your muscles become spastic and tighten around blood vessels, giving your brain less oxygen and nutrition. Take time to get a massage, read a book, do some deep breathing, or take a walk to let go of the stress that you are carrying in your shoulders.
  3. Get checked by your chiropractor – Chiropractic adjustments are largely effective at relieving and reducing the frequency of headaches. Headaches may be coming from your neck and intensify throughout the day because of the posture that you sit in at your desk. When you fail to get up and move around every hour, or sit with your shoulders slumped and head protruding forward, there is increased stress on your neck, which can lead to headaches. Adjustments help to decrease muscle spasm, retrain proper muscle function, and decrease the stress put on your spinal joints. When your body is functioning and moving properly, it can return to a natural state of health, where headaches occur less frequently and you stop dreading the late afternoon headache at work.

There is always a cause of headaches. It is up to you and your doctor to find out what it is so that you can take steps to prevent them from happening, rather than only treating them when they do happen. Talk to your chiropractor today and stop living with headaches.

Headaches Gone!

It seems unbelievable that a gentle adjustment to the spine could have such profound results with difficult and chronic cases of headache pain.  Patients find them so remarkable they write enthusiastic testimonials like this one.

“One week of treatments made such a difference in my life!  I am headache-free after years of chronic pain.  I can turn my head freely and my hearing has become clear and stayed that way.  I couldn’t believe it!  I can actually hear better, move better and I feel better!  I know that my life is better from chiropractic adjustments.” – Sydney C.

We’ve helped so many patients that we tend to take amazing results for granted.

How To Eliminate Headaches Naturally

Over the years as a Doctor of Chiropractic and headache expert in Denver, I know that headaches are the body’s way of telling us that something is out of balance. There are some things we can do in our daily routine to help limit or prevent headaches. Here are 10 things that work.

1. What are you putting in your body?

First, look at your diet. Sugar, caffeine and alcohol are common headache triggers. Gradually reducing the amount of these three items may decrease the frequency of your headaches.

In this “drive-thru” world, one thing that is lacking in many people is the essential vitamins and minerals the body needs to work efficiently.  A balanced diet rich in all the food groups, but focusing on whole foods in their natural state, will help reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches.

2. Regularity is key.

Inflammation can begin with inflammation in the intestines. Regular bowel movements are a sign of efficient detoxification. One of the initial and most common signs of toxicity in the body is headache. Chronic headaches can be the result of the body attempting to process more toxins than it can handle. Magnesium at bedtime and a daily dose of probiotics will help combat this.

3. Use proper stress management and relaxation techniques.

Stress is part of everyday life. We cannot escape it, but we can develop coping skills for a crises at work and at home. This will require a lot of self awareness and attention. Physical stress can also play a part. Poor ergonomics at work (such as a bad chair), prolonged staring at a computer screen, or driving can cause headaches as well.

Many patients respond to breathing exercises, meditation or yoga to eliminate stress. Other patients may choose a more physical approach, such as running or swimming. Others still to try a new hobby as their form of release. The choice is yours, find something that helps and do it consistently.

4. Sleep it off.

A good night’s sleep is more important and more elusive than one might think. Most people need seven to nine hours each night. If you can’t fall asleep or find yourself not sleeping through the night, take a look at your pre-sleep routine. You may find a clue to your sleep issues there, and by making a few simple adjustments regain that precious rest you have been missing.

5. Drink more water.

Water is amazing. It helps the body in many ways. I have seen my patients’ headaches improve dramatically just by drinking more water each day. The goal is to drink 8-10 glasses daily, but don’t just start drinking that today. The best thing to do is to increase water intake slowly by adding one cup per day, every three days. It is easier to sip throughout the day, than guzzling large quantities of water in one sitting.

6. Evaluate your body mechanics and alignment.

Your posture as well as your head and neck alignment are huge factors in nearly all types of headaches. Most patients are completely unaware just how significantly their body architecture can affect their joints, until they are dealing with chronic pain. A chronic headache may very well be the body telling you that your spine is misaligned and needs attention.

Consulting a Doctor of Chiropractic can help with each of these factors. An “adjustment” may be the perfect thing to put the body in balance and ease headache.  Adjustments are virtually painless, and help realign the spine allowing for better overall health.

Headaches From My Lower Back???

At the Denver Headache Health Center, Dr. Visentin D.C. has found that headaches are very common. Over 90% of the population has experienced one at some point. They are a signal that something is wrong. In most cases, headaches are the result of spinal misalignments, emotional stress, physical trauma, chemical toxins or a combination of factors.

Most people react to headache with over-the-counter pain relievers. The constant use of drugs to treat headaches can come with serious consequences though. Kidney failure and liver damage have both been documented in patients that have used pain relievers excessively. What’s worse is that the underlying cause of the headache is never addressed.

Most patients that visit the Denver Headache Health Center are surprised to find that their headaches can be caused by problems in their lower back. A person’s spine supports the weight of their head. If there is a misalignment in the lower back, the upper spine has to compensate for that. The head will then shift off center as a result, causing a build up of stress that can lead to headaches. These misalignments – or “subluxations” – will affect muscles, nerves and even the blood flow to the head.

A subluxation occurs when a bone in the spine shifts out of place. This disrupts the communication between the brain and body by the central nervous system. Muscles can go into spasm and the spinal bones freeze up, cutting off adjacent nerves. This can cause disruptions in the control and regulation of vital bodily functions.

What Causes Subluxation?

The three basic causes are physical, emotional or chemical. Physical causes include accidents, slips or falls, repetitive motions and improper lifting. Emotions affect alignment as well, examples include; anger, stress and fear. Drugs, alcohol, preservatives in food, poor diet and environmental pollution are all chemical causes of subluxation.

Regular care is the Key

When there are disruptions in nerve communication, it can cause health problems beyond headaches and back pain. The nervous system controls every cell, tissue, and organ in the body. If there are clear pathways for the nerve impulses to travel through the spine, the body can stay balanced for optimal health. Chiropractic care is the only way to detect subluxations and address the cause of headaches in a natural, non-invasive manner.

Spinal problems aren’t the only cause of headaches, but a thorough chiropractic evaluation will uncover the most common cause of headache, (subluxation).

Some patients get immediate relief with chiropractic care. In others, the symptoms slowly resolve over weeks. It takes some time for patients that have experienced chronic headaches for many years. Chiropractic adjustments are the key to easing one’s suffering and raising the overall quality of life. If you are suffering from headaches, and are in the Denver area, contact Dr. Visentin, D.C. at the Denver Headache Health Center.  Call (303) 394-CARE (2273).

The Secret To Headache Relief

Do you know what causes most headaches? Few people would even guess where most headaches really come from. Read this testimonial from one of our many grateful patients and find out the "secret" some doctors, don't even know.

I was at work one day when I started experiencing a headache. When it did not let up after six days, I went to the hospital. They ran all sorts of tests on me including a cat scan and a spinal tap. Two thousand dollars later, they still had no answers and I still had the headache. Going on three weeks, I decided to try a chiropractor. I started looking around and came across Dr. V. After just one adjustment, the pressure in my head was gone and I was on my way to recovery. Thanks Dr. V. - David M.

You may have guessed, most headaches come from the neck. Bones out of alignment in the neck, (or "subluxation"), is the most common cause of headache pain.

Having headaches is never normal. If you're wondering if you could find relief at our center like David did, call (303) 394-CARE (2273) now.

Magic Hands

Doctors of chiropractic have magic hands!  As a chiropractor I’ve enjoyed the best training available to doctors today concerning the “art of palpation” (or touch).  Chiropractors can “see” with their hands.

The other day, I felt a patient’s neck and noticed a vertebra was slightly misaligned.  When this bone moves out of place it often causes headache and can cause neck pain as well.  The muscles around the bone were tender and inflamed.  I don’t normally do this but I blurted out, “Is someone in your life being a pain in your neck?”  She quickly asked; “how did you know?  I just had a big run in with my boss!”  I let her know that, “I could just feel it.”  Of course I set the neck bone gently back into proper alignment and she left feeling much better.

Doctors of chiropractic are trained in a lost art called “palpation.”  Palpation means, to feel through the surface of the body for the purpose of determining the exact alignment of the spinal vertebrae and other structures.  During school we received more classroom hours than an ordinary doctor receives.  We spent many hours palpating the various structures of the spine on countless patients.  Some of the exercises we did required us to wear blindfolds as we felt for various structures deep in the spinal region.  We became so good, we could feel through several phone book pages to locate a human hair hidden under the pages by our professor.  We learned over time to “see” with our hands.

The point of this training of course, was to learn to detect spinal misalignments or subluxations.  Using ones hands to feel for bones out of place is one aspect of spinal analysis.  If the spine is straight, there is no interference with the nervous system.  When it’s subluxated or out of alignment, it causes serious nerve interference.  This leads to “dis-ease” and eventually disease.  The best scientists and doctors understand that this is the most common cause of illness today.  Bones out of place impact our nervous system and gradually erode our health.

When you are ready to get “the power turned on” in your life, visit a doctor who can see with his hands.  Find the cause of your “dis-ease” and correct it.  See a doctor of chiropractic.

Denver Headache

Headaches can be caused by many factors.  The most common cause of headache is a bone out of place in the neck, (or sub-lux-a-tion).  Here is an interesting testimonial from a professional wrestler.

“Before I started with Care Chiropractic, I had severe headaches and low energy.  I found it hard to do my daily activities or even help with my children.  I’m a pro wrestler and could hardly complete my wrestling training.

Since I’ve started care, I have a lot of energy and the ability to keep up with my children. I have preformed better in the wrestling ring and at the gym.  Even my marriage has been better since my visits.  I can now walk straight, no more headaches, and the pain in my knees has gone away.  I have even started to jog.”  -S. C.

Bones in the neck can move out of position due to slips, jerks, jolts, exertion, fatigue, and heredity factors.  If the bones pinch nerves that go to the head we experience headache, and many other problems including dizziness, irritability, fatigue, nausea, blurred vision, loss of memory, and loss of concentration.

If you’re experiencing a Denver headache, call our center now (303) 394-CARE (2273).

Headache Denver

Everyday at my center we help people who have suffered with headaches for years.  In many instances we can trace their pain back to a car accident they had years ago.  Read this case history of one of the many patients we’ve helped with whiplash symptoms that came on long after the accident.

“My first visit to Dr. V’s office was about three weeks ago and at that time I had constant lower back pain and headaches everyday.  At first I was skeptical, since this was all new to me.  I was assured by Dr. V that I would get the help I needed.  I found him to be very helpful as he explained in detail the seriousness of my injuries.  After a few visits, the aching and the headaches seemed to increase.  I was told that it would take time to heal.  My injuries began many years ago due to a car accident.  After my fourth visit, my headache was gone and I have not had one since!  Overall I feel better but I know it will take time before I’m completely well. I believe chiropractic care will keep me healthy.  I encourage all of you to continue with your treatments.  Dr. V is a caring, professional that can help you.”                    Debbie G.

Accidents can bend car frames and the human frame as well.  When bones move out of alignment in the neck, it can lead to a lifetime of:

  • headaches
  • fatigue
  • difficulty sleeping,
  • loss of memor
  • loss of concentration.

Many times, victims of car accidents are unaware of the true origin of their problems till we discover it during a thorough exam.

Blaming The Victim

When doctors can’t help people they get frustrated and all too often, blame the patient.  It’s terrible when this happens because patients deserve better.  Here is a fascinating testimonial from a patient that was thrown out of many doctors’ offices.

“I have suffered from severe headaches and back pain for four years.  I was told there was nothing that could be done for me.  When I first came to see Dr. Visentin I had a migraine that was so severe that I was nauseous.  My doctors had refused to see me as of October and the pain was intolerable.  Since I have been seeing Dr. V., I have experienced pain-free days, which I have not experienced in four years and the improvements have happened in just a few weeks.  While other doctors have claimed that there is nothing they can do for me, Dr. V. has helped.  This is a breakthrough and I thank God for putting Dr. Visentin in my life.” – S. Salinas

Stress Induced Headaches Causes & Cures

Do you have chronic headaches that come at the most inconvenient times or worse, never go away? Settling for constant headaches or headaches that come and go is no way to live. In order to get long term relief, you have to go to the source. There are a lot of different types of headaches, caused by different things. Stress is probably one of the most common causes of headaches. Stress can cause tension headaches or bring on migraines. Postural stress can also lock up the joints in your neck and cause cervicogenic headaches, originating from your neck.

How do I relieve my stress-induced headaches?

There are a lot of things that you can do to relieve your headaches that are natural and effective.

  • Get adjusted by your chiropractor – Whether your headaches are coming from your joints or your muscles, your nervous system is being affected and it is not happy. With abnormal functioning joints from postural stress, your body tenses up the surrounding muscles to provide more stability. You get a muscle spasm, which puts pressure on the surrounding tissues and they send pain messages to your brain. Also, surrounding blood vessels could be affected, causing increased pressure in your head and resulting in a headache. Your chiropractor will check your neck and if needed, adjust it. This increases the motion of your neck, decreases the muscle spasm, and decreases your headache.
  • Get a massage – Massage is extremely effective in alleviating tight muscles, increasing blood flow, and relieving stress that may be contributing to your tight muscles in the first place.
  • Put an ice pack on the back of your neck – Ice reduces inflammation, and decreases pain. Never leave an ice pack on for more than 20 minutes and always have a towel between it and your skin.
  • Take a nap – Sleep is essential for not only stress relief, but so that your body can recover mentally and physically day to day. At night, you should be getting between 7-9 hours of sleep and if you feel that you need it during the day, relax and enjoy a quiet nap.

Headaches are not easy to live with and there is no reason you should be. Get to the cause of the problem and stop the headache before it starts.

Why Did I Wait?

“Why did I wait, I can’t believe I lived with this pain so long.  All the time I was suffering I could have been feeling great.”  At Care Chiropractic, we hear these remarks so often, that we wonder why anyone hesitates to get care.  What we do works so well, it makes waiting seem pointless.  Here’s a letter from one of our many patients who suffered migraines for years.

“I had terrible migraines and sinus headaches along with mid back pain from being a nurse.  These migraines would stop me from doing my activities at work, caring for my children and housework.  I went to see Dr. V. and he gave me my life back.  He is wonderful.  I can enjoy my life again.” –M.M.

Sometimes we grow so used to hurting, we think it’s “normal” for us.  Our pain goes on and on until we accept it and see no other way.  This is terrible, and should never happen but it is a regular occurrence.  When people finally receive effective care at our center, it’s almost like a light bulb goes on above their heads.  They discover they can live a different kind of life and live pain-free for once and for all.

What are your chances of being headache free?  You will never know unless you call, (303) 394-CARE(2273).

3 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Your Headaches

In our Denver Headache Health Center we always promote these 3 natural and effective ways to help get rid of your headaches.

  1. Drink plenty of water – Dehydration is often the cause of headaches. Before you reach for the bottle of Aspirin, make sure you are well hydrated! So how much water should you be drinking? Drink half your weight in ounces of water each day. For example, a 150 pound person would divide their weight in half and drink 75 ounces of water per day. One easy way to do this is to get a large water bottle with ounce measurements on the side. Fill it up and take it with you throughout your day. If you do not have a water bottle with measurements, there are 8 ounces in one cup of water. Divide your total daily ounces by 8 and that is how many cups of water you should be drinking everyday! 2. Get a massage – Headaches can also be cause by tight muscles in your neck. Massage relieves that tension and muscle spasm, which allows for increased blood flow and oxygen to get to your tissues. If you get chronic tension headaches, try other stress relieving techniques such as deep breathing and healthy eating to try to lessen the chance of getting a headache.
  3. Get checked by your chiropractor – One very common cause of headaches is coming directly from your neck. When you have fixations or decreased motion between the bones in your neck, there can be muscle and nerve irritation that refers pain into your head. Your chiropractor finds those fixations and applies a very specific adjustment to that area, which breaks up scar tissue, decreases pain, increases motion, and increases function. This solution goes directly to the cause of your headaches and gives your body the ability to return to its natural state of health. Headaches are a way of telling you that something in your body needs to be addressed. The treatment should fit the cause of your headaches. Get a thorough evaluation of your headaches from your chiropractor today. Stop covering up your symptoms and start getting to the root of the cause.

What Is A TMJ Headache?

According to the American Dental Association about 60 million Americans have temporomandibular joint syndrome or TMJS.  The symptoms include headaches, sore jaw joint, difficulty chewing and talking.

Muscular and structural irregularities in the jaw caused by stress, trauma, and dental problems can aggravate the jaw joint.  The jaw is very sensitive because of the amount of nerves that go there.

Many of our patients swear by gentle adjustments to the jaw that actually relieve headaches.  To see if you qualify for this kind of care, call (303) 394-CARE (2273).  Adjustments realign the jawbone and create normal healthful movements.

Why Suffer Needlessly?

Below is a testimonial from one of our many patients who is now, headache-free.

“I suffered from headaches for a year.  These headaches were so severe they brought on vomiting episodes that lasted two days!  I sought help through general practitioners.  They prescribed migraine medicine that made my symptoms worse.  A friend told me about Dr. Visentin, and I went to see him as a last resort.  It turns out that my headaches were the result of subluxation in my neck area.  Subluxation means, bones out of alignment interfering with the nervous system.  After three adjustments, my headaches were gone and the vomiting episodes stopped.  I feel that I have more energy.  Thanks to Dr. Visentin.” – Lindsay O.

There is no benefit to suffering needlessly.  There is nothing “noble” about it.  Our care is

  • affordable
  • safe
  • gentle
  • very effective

Headaches Cures

Where is my headache coming from?

Headaches do not mean that you have an aspirin deficiency. They are one way of your body telling you that something needs to be addressed. Whether your headaches are stemming from your neck, your tight muscles, or your excessive stress, you need to get to the source of them so that you do not continue to suffer. Taking ibuprofen for a headache is like putting a band aid on a broken bone. Unless you find and correct the cause of your headaches, they may continue to come back.

There are many sources and different kinds of headaches. Sometimes migraines can be brought on by certain foods, smells, or experiences. Find out what those triggers are so you can avoid them the best that you can. Other people are affected by tension headaches, where the muscle spasms in their shoulders and upper back refer pain into their head. Many times massage is very beneficial for this type of headache. Another very common type of headache is what is called a cervicogenic headache, or a headache that is coming from the neck. When your spine is misaligned, there are disrupted signals that go to the brain, including pain signals. When these misalignments are addressed by your chiropractor, the signals between the brain and the body are reconnected and pain, inflammation, and spasm all decrease.

Can chiropractic really get rid of my headaches?

Chiropractic adjustments are extremely effective at reconnecting the communication between your brain and the rest of your body so that you can return to your natural state of health. This includes getting rid of your headaches and preventing them from coming back. What are you waiting for? Get checked by your chiropractor today!

Chiropractic can help Headaches

How can chiropractic help?

Chiropractic care is very effective at decreasing the severity and frequency of chronic and sporadic headaches. Headaches can be caused by a number of different things; from spinal misalignments to sinuses, dehydration, and tight muscles. Whatever the cause, your chiropractor will thoroughly evaluate your spine and the rest of your health to determine it. A very specific, gentle adjustment will be made in the affected area of your neck and within a few hours, you should have a noticeable difference in your headache. Instead of reaching for the ibuprofen the next time you feel a headache coming on, try getting adjusted first.

What if I am not scheduled for an appointment with my chiropractor and I have a terrible headache?

If there is absolutely no way that you can get in to see your chiropractor when you are right in the middle of a headache, try the following things for relief:

  • Drink plenty of water so that you are fully hydrated
  • Apply an ice pack on the back of your neck for no more than 20 minutes at a time
  • Rest in a dark, quiet room
  • Do something relaxing
  • Get a massage
  • Get plenty of sleep at night
  • Stay away from sugar, caffeine, and alcohol

When you are under consistent chiropractic care, you are not only lessening the severity of your headaches, but there is a high likelihood that the frequency of your headaches will decrease as well. If you have had headaches throughout your life, there is hope. Talk to your chiropractor about the specific causes of your headaches so that you can start getting relief today.
