Chiropractic Clinic In Denver – Scoliosis
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a term for abnormal spinal curvatures, commonly called “hunchback”.
How Does This Happen?
There are various kinds of scoliosis:
- Congenital -scoliosis you are born with
- Neuromuscular -scoliosis usually associated with Spina Bifida and cerebral palsy
- Degenerative -scoliosis from bone thinning, surgeries, or trauma
- Most commonly, Idiopathic -scoliosis thought to have been brought on due to misalignments of the spine during the adolescent growth stage. This tendency is genetic.
What Can I do To Help Myself?
Exercise regularly to maintain good muscle tone. Avoid exercises that involve movements that tend to aggravate the condition. Good exercises include cycling, swimming, walking, yoga, Pilates, and tai chi.
It’s Still Bothering Me, Now What?
“Watching and waiting” for scoliosis to get so bad it requires surgery is never a good idea. Always visit a qualified Doctor of Chiropractic, an expert at correcting the cause of abnormal spinal alignment (subluxation). Early detection of subluxation can help you avoid a lifetime of self-conscious feelings, abnormal posture, and, in advanced cases, compromise of the heart, lungs, and other organs. Although surgery may become necessary in very advanced cases, this is very rare and can and should be avoided with proper care at our center.
