The Power That Made The Body Is The Power That Heals The Body
In 2006 I was invited to a mission in Panama and I helped over 1,500 people in less than a week. Every day I saw miracles; it was an amazing experience.
People wonder, how is that possible, 1500 people in 5 days? It was easy! I didn’t do any healing. I aligned the spine by setting the vertebrae in place, and the inner power that heals us all did the rest.
I went on a mission with 22 other chiropractors, the best from around the world. We were invited by the government of Panama and were guests of Juan Carlos Navarro, who was the mayor of Panama City.
Every morning we met in the lobby and even though it was February, it was blazing hot. Someone would say a short prayer for the peoples’ lives we were about to touch. As chiropractors we gently realign the spinal bones. We prayed together as a group for their benefit.
Because we worked so hard and were helping so many people in a third world country with the stress of travel and extreme changes that go with it, we aligned each other’s spines. To make sure we were at our best, we worked on each other.
We helped people from 9am till about 2 or 3 in the afternoon and saw as many people as we could in that time.
We were working in a hot noisy bus terminal in the center of the city. We set up some chairs in a circle and an amazing thing happened. Thousands and thousands of people came from all over the country to get their spines checked for something called “sub-lux-a-tion.” Subluxation means bone out of place in the spine. We sat each one down, checked their spines and gently realigned their vertebrae. This is called an adjustment. It facilitates the nervous system and allows for healing.
Film crews from television stations arrived, writers from newspapers showed up, and we were on the radio almost daily. It was exhilarating, and a lot of fun. We were “turning on the power” in peoples’ lives, letting them experience more life and health, by taking pressure off the nerves. When this is done, power life and energy surges through the body and heals us.
Some of the doctors visited a prison. Panama’s prisons are noted for being some of the worst in the world according to Amnesty International.
Prisoners were brought for care one at a time in chains. Guards armed with machine guns were in the room at all times. Each prisoner was carefully unchained for their adjustment.
Freedom from Subluxation
A prisoner was unchained. A doctor checked his spine, and found a slight deviation of the vertebra just beneath the skull. Immediately after the chiropractor carefully set it in alignment, the prisoner grew very animated. He was so excited he seemed to forget where he was momentarily. He brought his hands up and started to express himself and speak. He felt free at his very core. He had been liberated from the stiffness associated with bones out of place. I imagine that for a moment he was unburdened, not only at the spinal level but on the spiritual plane as well. Just as quickly, he looked at the guard with the gun and remembered where he was. He put his hands behind his back, bowing his head forward once more.
Kids Love Chiropractic
Some of my colleagues went to childrens’ homes. These kids were lost, sick or simply discarded by their parents. One of the children was cross-eyed. A doctor checked his spine and found a vertebra that was out of place. As he gently realigned the child’s spine, and the boys’ eyes tracked normally. He was no longer cross-eyed!
Panamanians Are Wonderful
Some amazing things happened while we were there. As we worked people came by to give us food. Ladies prepared some delicious hot empanadas and fed us while we worked. Others came by to kiss us. They stood around and watched us working for hours. They wanted to learn about chiropractic. They watched others getting adjusted and saw how easy it is. They noticed it was painless and wanted to get checked. Of course we would help them too.
Things Get Crazy
Everyday we’d serve hundreds and hundreds of people. The workload was intense. There were so many people that wanted to get adjusted; many times we had to turn people away. We’d do as much as we could and tell people, “Come back tomorrow.”
I remember a man following us back to our van. My colleague Luis was speaking to him as we walked. He was telling Luis he wanted to get adjusted, but he didn’t arrive in time. He wanted to be adjusted before we got into the van. Luis kept saying “no, no, come back tomorrow, come back tomorrow” as we walked faster and faster. The man was very persistent and we began to run as he chased us.
Finally, we stopped as the man explained, “you have to adjust me.” Luis adjusted him on the sidewalk before we jumped in the van. That was the first time I saw someone get adjusted on a walkway.
Revelation
Before I went, people tried to explain to me about how poor and sick people were in Panama. They explained they were in desperate need.
I went with some fears. I was afraid I might burn out or be overwhelmed by human need. I discovered on my mission that a sure way to burn out, is not giving enough. As a doctor to find yourself, you must lose yourself in service.
A great writer described Panama as “the bridge of the world and the heart of the universe.” It’s a geographic bridge between North and South America. For me it was a bridge to the heart of healing, through loving, serving and giving.
We served thousands and thousands of needy and sick people with the help of the government and employees of Panama.
We saw real miracles and got in touch with a feeling of fulfillment as doctors.
The government gave us awards, recognized us, and even sent their national dance troop on the last day of our visit to see us off.
Mission Comes To Denver
I want to bring the mission home to Denver, Colorado.
If you’ve never had an adjustment, or never been to a chiropractor call me now. Whether you have pain or not is unimportant. Chiropractic is about being the whole person you were meant to be. Getting adjusted is a safe and gentle way to maximize your potential for better health over a lifetime.
