Explanation of Answers

Question #1 – If you have a discal problem you don’t necessarily have to have surgery.  The techniques we offer in my Denver chiropractic clinic work very well with discal protrusions, ruptures, etc.

Question #2 – Surgeons don’t agree about who needs surgery.  Very few people actually need surgery.  I can’t remember the last time one of my patients went for surgery, it’s rare.  Surgeons know that surgery is dangerous and is done many times needlessly.

Question #3 – You don’t have to take it easy, you can have an active life.  Scientists and doctors are recommending active lifestyles.  Waiting for the pain to go away while you rest in bed is one of the worst things you can do in most instances.

Question #4 - Most back pain comes on without apparent cause.  It occurs very often after lifting something trivial, like a piece of paper.  People bend, twist and suddenly notice they have excruciating lower back pain.  Back pain is not necessarily due to heavy lifting.

Question #5 - Back pain is not usually disabling.  You can remain active, with some restrictions while getting care for your Denver back pain.

Question #6 – Bed rest is not good therapy for most cases of Denver low back pain.  This just weakens the back.

Millions of Americans will suffer from low back pain.  Virtually all of us suffer low back pain at some time.  It drains our economy of over 50 billion dollars a year of lost income and productivity.  Read these secrets carefully so you don’t become a statistic.

The Seven Secrets of Avoiding Denver Low Back Pain

Secret Number One
If you have sharp or shooting pain in the lower back, the best thing is to use ice.  The heating pad is a big mistake.  Electric heating pads can actually make your problems worse.  Use ice early on and apply the ice over a wet towel from 5-20 minutes, three times daily.  This will bring the swelling down and offer relief in most cases of Denver lower back pain.

Secret Number Two
Avoid sitting, it dramatically increases the pressure on the discs of the spine.  You’re much better off walking, standing, squatting, or laying belly down on a big exercise ball to stretch the muscles.

Secret Number Three
If you must sit, lean backward, put weight on your elbows and avoid sitting up straight.  Contrary to popular belief: sitting up straight damages the spine.  Slouching or doing what you do naturally is better for you.  It’s good for the discs of the lower back.

Secret Number Four
According to the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, the standard medical modalities are “very expensive and not very effective for back pain.”  In most instances of lower back pain, you don’t want to see you ordinary doctor.  If you have lower back pain call (303) 394-2273, let’s talk about it.  If you’re not in the Denver area, call a local doctor of chiropractic.

Secret Number Five
Avoid bending and twisting movements such as; shoveling, lifting the garage door, or lifting groceries out of a car.  These movements are dangerous and tend to provoke discal problems.

Secret Number Six
Avoid high heels.  Wear a lower heel.  Cowboy boots and high heels increase the curve in the lower back, and put pressure on the delicate nerves that come from the spine.

Secret Number Seven
According to the Federal Government and the Agency For Health Care Policy and Research, the most effective care for lower back pain are adjustments, like the ones doctors of chiropractic provide.  According to clinical practice guidelines #14, a panel of medical specialists agreed the care that chiropractors provide is the best care for sharp back pain.
