Most People Get Wrong Care!

Denver whiplash doctor, Steven Visentin, D.C. wants accident victims to stop doing the wrong things for their injuries so they don’t suffer lifetime pain.  If you’ve been hurt by a car accident, check this list of the seven big mistakes most people make caring for whiplash.

Mistake #1: Emergency Room Exams Are Not Enough!

The emergency exam will determine if you’ll live or die, but not how you’ll live.  Usually people leave the E.R. with good news like; “you have no broken bones”.  This does NOT mean you’re o.k.!  Accidents rip and tear the muscles, ligaments and tendons that hold the spine together.  Unless proper care is given to the supportive and guiding structures, you may join the 50% of patients who suffer lifetime pain.

It’s smart to seek care from someone who’s helped 1,000’s and 1,000’s of accident victims, and have dynamic x-ray studies done that show if the spine is moving properly.  Then you’ll have a chance to fix it.

Mistake #2: Your Medical Doctor May Not Be Much Help!

Your family doctor has little training in caring for whiplash.  The drugs he/she prescribes have side effects and risks.  These pills slow healing and are not nearly as effective as the care you may need.

Mistake #3: Physical Therapy Is Not Enough!

Physical therapy has not been shown to be particularly effective with whiplash pain.

Mistake #4: Exercises On the Internet Can Hurt You!

Flexing your head down and retracting it back, is the worst exercise possible for most whiplash sufferers.  This is what you’ll find on-line for neck problems, and it is wrong.  It tends to aggravate neck pain caused by accidents.

Mistake #5: Using a Cervical Collar Can Be Like Injecting Glue Into Your Neck Joints!

If a doctor told you to wear a cervical collar for a fracture, wear it!  Otherwise, it may be a bad idea.  Don’t force your neck to heal crooked.  See a doctor in Denver who can help you get your neck balanced without having to wear that uncomfortable device.

Wearing a cervical collar too long will eventually lead to bone thinning and muscle wasting.  Don’t play games with your health.

Mistake #6: Using a Heating Pad Is Bad!

Research shows, placing electrical fields near the body is dangerous.  Heating pads disturb the delicate electrical potentials your cells need to be healthy.

In general, start with ice, 5-20 minutes three times a day.  Always place a wet towel between your skin and the ice to avoid frostbite.  Later, when the joints are “stiff” or “achy”, use hot moist heat from a hot shower, bath, or compress.

Mistake #7: Delaying Care!

The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get well.  Half of the people involved in serious accidents never fully recover.  They suffer lifetime pain.  There is nothing noble about needless suffering.

Listen to your body!  If you have any of these symptoms, even weeks or months after an accident, IT’S NOT OKAY! Top Denver chiropractor Steven Visentin of Care Chiropractic wants to help you!
